LAND FOR SETTLEMENTS
THE CARRINGTON ESTATE. - (Special to the "N.Z. Times/') MABTERTON. June *. The Government has now definitely decided to acquire Mr W. Howard Booth's Carrington estate near Carterton for close settlement purposes. The acquisition has been hanging fire for some months owing to difficulty regard-* lug tho beneficiaries' timber rights, and until these were settled the Government refused to ratify the purchase, aU though everything else had been agreed upon by the parties interested. The estate covers an area of about 6000 acres, and the price paid is understood to be something uear JCGO.OOO.
