BRITTSH. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, the 16th inst.: The mutton market is weaker, and tendency is downward. Supplies are increasing. There is a good demand for prime quality, but heavy mutton is dull of sale. The average price of Canterbury is 4|d, and North Island 4|d per lb. The lamb market is dull for present requirements, and future business is in an unsettled state. Canterbury lamb is quoted at s£d per lb. Tho beef market is quiet at unchanged rates. The butter market is glutted and lifeless. Choice New Zealand is quoted at -101 s, Argentine 101 s, Australian 965, and Danish at 112 s jper owt. The Butter Bill has been introduced into the Imperial Parliament. The cheese market is firm, with an upward tendency. The average price of New Zealand manufacture is 66s per cwt. The hemp market is quiet, but steady. Good fair grade on spot is quoted at £39 10s, and April-Jun© shipments £3B per ton. Fair current Manila is worth £4l per ton. There are unusually large entries for the ram fair on Thursday. The Lincoln entries alone are over* a thousand, constituting a record.
