AN EXPLANATION.
THE LORD ANTRIM’S MOVEMENTS ■ MELBOURNE, October 8. The captain of the steamer Lord Antrim, which left Sydney in defiance of the instruction of the navigation authorities, states that while in Sydney a pilot was ordered, hut failed to turn up. The authorities ordered him to make room for another vessel, and he had only the option of getting out of the way or committing a serious offence. Not having a pilot, and knowing no safe_ anchorage, he took the only alternative and cleared out. He generally condemned the methods of inspection at Sydney.
