BUNNYTHORPE EXPLOSION.
GILLIES COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. ' PUESS ASSOCIATION. , PALMERSTON, August 9. In the Police Court to-day John Jarvio Gillies, proprietor of a butter factory at Bunnythorpe, was charged with wilfully placing an explosive in Nathan and Co.’s dried milk factory at Bunnythorpe, on July 22nd, thereby causing damage to the amount of .8250. “ Several witnesses were examined as to the extent of the. damage. Detective Quirke detailed a lengthy conversation he ,iiad with accused, with the object of showing that Gillies's business' would be affected by the opening of the dried milk factory. Gillies admitted to the detective being out just before the explosion, between 2 and 3 o’clock in the morning, but said he went to his brother’s house for medicine for his child. . • Accused’s brother denied that such a visit had been made. After other evidence had been taken. Gillies was committed for trial. ,
