For drunkenness Jesse Underwood, against whom there were three previous convictions, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. A first offender was convicted and discharged. Alfred Lord pleaded guilty to a charge of having fraudulently converted to Ills own uso tho sum of £2, which ho had received on terras requiring hint to account for it to Philip Wilis. Prisoner, having boon reputed of good character up to tho time of tho offence, was convicted and discharged, on undertaking to return, tho money. Harold Dooroy and Tcrranoo Farrell appeared on remand, charged with having occasioned a breach of the peace in Willis street on Saturday night. Both wore convicted and discharged. Tito c.-iso against Herbert Arthur Guise, charged with obtaining by a false pretence from Michael Brennan groceries valued at Cs od, was remanded to the 3<ith inst. .1 remand was also granted in the case against James ilamnicii, who is alleged to have committed a grossly indecent act in Dauiol street on the 10th inst.

James Thomas was charged with tho theft from a clothes-line of clothes, valued at -Is. belonging to Michael Levy. It appeared that Thomas had offered the stolon goods for sale at the shop of their rightful owner. Promixing to regard his treatment as a warning, lie was convicted and discharged.

William Latham was convicted of tho theft of 331 b of zinc, tho property of John Nelson, but no sentence was imposed. The possession of unstamped weights was tho subject of charges brought against Sing On Keo and John Miles. Allies Wits also charged with having unstamped scales. They were ordered to forfeit the Weights and scales concerned. Sing On Kco was fined 20s (costs 7s), and .Miles was fined 10s (costs 7s) for each offence.

The Inspector of Factories, Mr J. Lindsay, prosecuted Henry Brittain, chemist. Manners street, for a- breach of the Shops and Offices Act. Accused admitted that lie had failed to close Ills shop on tho 13th inst. at S p.m., ns required hy tho act, but complained of tho hardship that would bo inflicted in cases of illness by a punctilious observance of tho law. Air Lindsay said eomo of tho medicine obtained after the prescribed dosing time was not urgently required. It was very ahnoying to other chemists that this shop should remain open when theirs were dosed. A fine of £2 was imposed, with costs ft-. and wtness's expenses (0s).
