ANNUAL MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION. The eighth annual meeting of the New /.calami Accountants’ and Auditors’ Association wa« resumed at the CTiamher of Commerce yesterday morning, Mr T. S. A sub-committee of tlireo was net up to consider tho main objections to tho Accountants Bill.

Mr J. It. Mackio throw out a suggestion for tho consideration of load centres that a scale of fees should be drawn up for public accountants. It was agreed, on tho motion of the president that in future successful candidates at examinations should receive notification that_ they had pasted the follows examination, and that on attaining the proper ago they would bo furnished with certificate of qualification.

The president moved—“ That tho subscription feo payable by fellows bo increased to two guineas per annum.” Mr J. H. Barker (Wellington) moved, as an amendment—“ That tho following worels bo added to tho motion: —‘Ono guinea of which shall ho retained by tho eeutro at which such subscriptions nro received.’ ” Tho president ruled this amendment out of order. After somo discussion, tho matter was deferred until next general meeting.

Mr A. S. Biss (Wellington) moved—'■That each centre bo asked to submit proposals for alterations in tho rules of tho association; a committee to be thereafter set up to consider tho proposals.” Mr H. A. Kcosing (Auckland) seconded, and tho motion was carried. Mr Biss, speaking of tho Accountants Bill, said it was not what it should be, nor what was agreed upon at tho Christchurch convention. Ho moved—- “ That tho institute bo approached with tho view of arranging for another convention, to consist of three delegates from each society, to discuss tho till in ample time to get suggested alterations drafted in before next joaiion.” Mr Barker seconded. Mr William A. Ott (Southland) moved, as an amendment—“ That, haring in view tho necessity of some amendment in the Accountants Bill, as at present draftee* and in order that a final settlement of tho matter bo arrived at ‘ speedily, this mooting resolves (a) that each cenfro forthwith prepare a list of their suggestions and amendments in regard to the bill, one copy of same to be forwarded to tho registrar at Auckland, and copies to each centre, such list* to bo pouted not later than March 31st, 1906; (b) upon receipt of ail these lists each centre to again hold a meeting and adopt a list of final suggestions and amendments, tho latter lists to be forwarded to Auckland, to arrive there not later than April 30th, 1906: (c) on receipt of these lists tho •‘cgi-.V'ir to hand over same to tho Joint Committee of tho Institute of Accountants and tho N.Z.A. and A. Association, namely. Messrs Barr, Fisher, and Brown, and Messrs Graham, Labatt, and Tnompson (with power to add to their numbers). with instructions to call a meeting of said committee, and decide what amendments are to be made in the bill, the representations obtaining most tup port from the centres to havo first confederation; (d) the registrar to send complete lists of alterations agreed upon to each centre, when the Joint Committee havo come to a final decision.” M- Wiborfoss seconded tho amendment, which was carried. On tho motion of Mr J. H. Mackie, seconded by Mr Thornton, tho advisability of raising tho standard of tho examinations and extending thoir scope was mode a subject for consideration by a special committee. ‘lt was decided, on Mr Thornton’s motion, to obtain tho syllabus of the Canterbury College, the committee to consider same, and submit their observations thereon to tho college authorities. A vote of thanks to tho Auckland Council terminated tlie proceedings.
