FIVE VESSELS BECALMED.

COLLISION NARROWLY AVERTED MESS ASSOCIATION. GISBORNE, January 22. Five Bailing vessels, all Gis born ohound, wore off East Capo yesterday morning—tho scows Tramp, Ran©, and Southern Isle, tho ketch Sir Henry, and tho schooner Gkborno. Towards 9 o'clock tho vessels wore all becalmed and rolling considerably in a heavy ground swell, and drifting with tho current. Tho ketch Sir Henry, having a good hold of tho water, drifted dangerously near tho Southern Isle. Both vessels wore unmanagablo, and tho gear was immediately got ready to prevent a collision. When the vessels wore about ten yards apart a light wind enabled steerage way to bo gained, and thus averted tins danger. Tho schooner Gisborno loft Auckland at 4 p.m. on Thursdaylast, tho throe-masted scow Southern Isle about an hour later, and tho ketch Sir Henry at 12.30 next day. Tho Gisborno was tho first to make port, shortly after midnight; tho Sir Henry camo to anchorage at 2 a.m.; and tho Southern Islo showed up shortly after midday. Tho scows Tramp and Rangi, from Ngungum, arrived at 6 o'clock this morning, having left together last Monday.
