EXTENSION OF OPERATIONS. PROPOSAL CARRIED AT SPECIAL .MEETING. BALLOT ORDERED. (Received January 10, 11.8 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 10. Tho six-rial meeting of member** of the A.M.P. Society, called to consider tho proposal to extend tiie society s ■.’.here of operaiioiL* to Great Britain and South Africa, was held to-day. The chairman, in moving the resolution, and urging it.* adoption, mid it wan not proposed lo take any immediate step* to do business in South Africa. That field would first be fully investigated. An amendment was moved against tho proposal. Both were debated at length. Tho amendment was lost hy 1-58 vote* to <l.B, and tho motion carried hy 100 lo 03. The mover of the amendment demanded a ballot, and having tlio requisite support, a ballot was ordered. 'Personal voting is to take place on Monday next and voting by proxy on Tut-. lay. Tlio result will bo declared on Wednesday.
