THE WEATHER.
The rainfall observed at the Meteorological Observatory. Wellington, by the Rev D. C. Bates for the month of Octo. her, was 6.17 inches, nearly two inches above the average for 47 previous years. The rain fell on 18 days, being three days above the average. The shies were also estimated to bo two-tenths more cloudy than usual. The maximum rainfall for October, and in fact for any month in 'Wellington, occurred last year, when 12.94 in was recorded. The minimum falls were ,C7in in 1903 and ,42in in 1834. The mean temperature for the month was 53.5 deg. Bah., being .8 deg. below the normal. The highest temperature of the air in shade was 63.8 deg. on the afternoon of the sth, and the lowest 41.3 deg occurred on the morning of the loth. The mean maximum was 39.0 deg. and the mean minimum 48.3 deg. The mean daily velocity of the wind was 236 miles per day, 30 below the average for the month; 549 miles were recorded for the 24 hours ending at 9 a.m. on the 22nd. Northerly winds prevailed during the month. Yesterday the weather was fine but overcast in tht: city, and at night rain fell.
