LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Thu Council sat all Monday night, and finally rone- about 8 o’clod: yesterday morning. After the “Times” went to press the Maori Land Claims Adjustment and Laws Amendment Hill was received from tlio House of Representatives, and referred to the Native Affairs Comimtifoc. Tho committee sat. and recomJrumded that tho hill be not passed this session. Tho recommendation was, fwlo'ptx'd. Tho killing of the bill war, partly responsible for tho protracted sitting of the Lower House, and, consepuoritly, of tho Legislative Council. The Factories Act Amendment Bill was amended and sent hack to the House of Itepresmtetircfi, and returned with an additional amendment. Finally, tho clause under dispute (remuneration of workers) was fixed, to read that in tho case of a person not antler twenty years of age ’who has been employed in any capacity in a factory or factories for a period of not less than four years a rate of not less than 17. s a week shall ho paid for the first year and not Ices, than 20s a week afterwards. Air.in, I a.m. tho Appropriation .Bill was brought down and passed. -Messrs Kaihan and AVI Peru entered a protest 'Ugaiuat the Governiikmi t’s Maori laud legislation, particularly in regard to the rejection by the Legislative Council of tho Maori Lend Claims Adjustment Bill. The Premier smoothed things raver by stating that ho would make tho bill one of the first Government measures next session. At. 3.17 a.m., after tho- usual formalities, tho business of the session was brought to an end.
