TRADES UNION DISPUTE.
AN IMPORTANT POINT. LONDON, October 27.
The Trades Unions are defying DL* Sim. tho Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies, in connection with his refusal to sanction trade unions paying contributions to salaries for members of Parliament. They declare that Dir Sim passed tho rales of the Boot and Shoo Operatives’ Union containing the very provision for payments which he has now disallowed.
A message received from Loudon last week was as follows; —The refusal of the Chief Registrar |of Friendly Societies, Jlr J. U. S. Sim. io sanction trade unions paying contributions to a salary for members of Parliament—a decision which reversed the ruling of bis predecessor, Mr 13. W. Brabrook—is causing a good deal of comment. Sir Edward Clarke and Sir Robert Reid have given tho opinion that tile trade union rule in regard to the payment of members of the House of Commons is legal. A test action will be prepared unless Mr Sim, who lias ruled otherwise, reverses bis recent decision.
