THE COMING ELECTIONS.

Mr W. H. Field, addressed a meeting of tho Otaki electors at Makara on Saturday last. Mr T. Robinson, sonr., was voted to the chair. - Mr Field's address. which lasted about two hours, was listened to by a very largo number of settlers, who, notwithstanding the inclemency of tho weather, had come from all parts of tho district. He was accorded a good hearing, and a vote of thanks and confidence in him as member for Otaki was unanimously carried, also a vote of confidence in the Government. Mr Izard will address the electors in tho Theatre Royal next Wednesday evening.

Mr P. J. O’Regan’s general committee is to meet at Goodalrs tea-rooms, next the Opera House,'to-night. Mr Barber’s late committees and other supporters are to meet at Brooklyn this evening, and at Kilbirnie on Wednesday night. Tho central committee will meet at the Shaw Studios, Riddiford street, to-morrow evening.

Mr Wilford announces that public meetings are to take place at Taita tonight, and Khandallah to-morrow. The men’s committee at Wadestown is to meet to-night, and tho ladies’ committee to-morrow night. Mr Hislop will speak at Brooklyn tonight, Kilbirnio to-morrow, South Kilbirnie Wednesday, Mitchelltown Friday, and Roseneath next Monday. Dr Chappie will meet his committee and supporters this evening at the committee rooms, corner of, Rintoul and Riddiford streets. Addresses will be delivered by the candidate at Roseneath to-morrow night, Newtown Wednesday and Thursday, and Saturday, and Kilbirnie Friday.

Mr W. McLean’s committee room is at 50, Kent terrace, where the roll may bo inspected. Dales of committee meetings are given in another column. A meeting of all workers of the Liberal party is to be held in the New Century Hall to-morrow evening, when business of special importance is to be considered. P.IIESS ASSOCIATION. INGLEWOOD, October 28. Mr Jennings, member for Egraont, addressed a meeting last night. He declared that he would continue to support the present Government. In reply to a question ho refused to say whether ho would accept a seat in the Upper House if ho was defeated at the general election. DUNEDIN, October 28. Mr Gilkinson received a vote of confidence at Roxburgh lost night. HAMILTON, October 28. Mr Greenslade, Liberal candidate for tho Waikato seat, last night addressed a large and enthusiastic meeting of electors at Hamilton. Ho declared himself strongly in favour of the optional freehold being granted to all Crown tenants. He trencnautly condemned Mr Kirkhride’s action in Parliament in stating that ho (Mr Greenslade) was piloted through the blackblocks by Mr Thomas Burd, district road engineer, and said such a palpable attempt to injure one of the most competent men in tho service could not be too severely censured. lie explained that Mr Burd, with other Departmental officers and himself, had accidentally met in Kawhia backblocks, and had ridden toegthcr, but the engineer bad not interfered in election matters. The Opposition party seemed desirous of creating a reign of terror in tho Civil Service and preventing freedom of action, but it would react upon themselves. A vote of thanks and confidence was passed.
