A Wairarapa resident, Mr W. O. Wit liams, of Greytown, has set an example of public spirited munificence which is well worthy of imitation by other colonists. He has conveyed by doed of gift to the Crown a choice patch of native forest, section 9, block 11, at Kahautara, in Wairarapa Survey District, as a scenic reserve. The section is about nine acres in area, with an approach from the Kahautara road, and locally known as "Kahautara Bush.” The land has boon taken over by the Tourist Department under the Scenery Preservation Act, and has been fenced, and a protective belt of hardy trees has been planted round it. This reserve is now, with the exception of the kahikatea forests on the ll.ua.mar hanga river, the only piece of bush remaining in the Kahautara district. The reserve contains some very large Idhikatea, rimu, and totara trees, with many ti-palms and mixed vegetation, and is a beautiful spot viewed from the adjoining rood. In time to cofuo it will be looked upon as an exceedingly valuable relic of the vanished Wairar rapa forests. Taratalu Dairy Company report shown that up to September 30, 241,021 Tbs of milk had boon received at the factory, resulting in 88,3371bs of butter fat, which, at a progress payment of 6d pet lb, would bring the monthly payment to suppliers to £220 18s Bd.
