H. Frances.—The following are the dates you wish, bo far as wo can procure them:—First Panama Canal Company started operations February 28th, 1881; worked about eight years, and went into liquidation on January Ist, 1889; New Panama Canal Company formed 1891, and worked about three years; made proposals to transfer its property and rights to the United States Government on January 4th. 1902; treaty between United States and Panama signed November 18th, 1903. The time that the undertaking to remain without anything being done to it may be deduced, approximately, from these figures. Chas. Laishley.—Burgess. Kelly, and Levy were hanged at Nelson on October sth, 1866.
