Tho Aid to Public Works and Land 'Settlement Bill was put through all its rat.ages and 'passed. During tho second reading tho Hon Mr Pitt stated that the colony was to ho congratulated upon tho state of its .finances and upon tho largo amount of public works which it had been able to enter upon and execute without borwwing more largely than had been done in recent y<fa,TS--1 LOROWHENTA BLOCI>. Tho second reading of the Hoio•whenua Block Act Amendment Bill was moved hy tho Hon Air Pitt, who stared that tho hill wn.s to give effect to what had been recommended by a Commission which was set up in IBGG, and to settle a dispute between a number of natives ever since tho passing ol tho Horowhenua Block Act. Eight acres of land lire vested in Alary Allan AlcDonald, and tho Native Land Court is authoriscd. to ascertain the ownership of tho residue of the land—about 132 acres—and to authorise tho issue of certifitales of title accordingly. Tho bill was passed through committee without amendment, and read a third time. The Council adjourned at 3.35 p.m.
