HEAVY RAIN.
PRESS ASSOCIATION. WANGANUI, October 26. There was an exceptionally heavy downpour of rain last evening, over nn inch and three-quarters falling during the night. The low-lying parts of the district are flooded, but no serious damage has been done except to the market gardens, which arc under water. Two and a half inches of ruin fell at Taumarunui, and the river is now rising, but as the weather is again fine, no arreat flood is expected. CHRISTCHURCH, October 26. After three days’ very fine weather, rain set in on Tuesday, and has continued intermittently since. It is now raining heavily. The exceptionally wet season has thrown back farming operations. The winter-sown wheat has rotted in the ground, necessitating ro-sowing over a large area. The harvest will consequently ne late. Lambing so far has been •jery satisfactory.
