FARMERS' UNION.
THE HARVESTER TRUST. PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH. October 25. At a meeting of the North Canterbury Executive of the Farmers’ Union to-day the Slock and Produce Committee reported that the Christchurch Woolbrokors' Association had offered to adopt Melbourne rates relating to the sale of wool in place of the existing rates. It wus> resolved not to accept the offer. Mr Bywater, New Zealand representalive of the International Harvester Company, wrote by invitation to the union putting his side of the trust question be’ fore delegates. He assured delegates that they had no cause to be afraid that the farmer would be asked to pay more for his implements than ho was paying at present. The company’s idea was to reduce the selling price by selling direct to the buyer instead of through local manufacturers. It was resolved to request various branches to discuss the question of a protective duty on imported farming machinery and forward their views in time for the summer conference of the union.
