PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND. October 25. A young woman named Lily Young was charged in the Police Court with being concerned in somewhat extensive jewellery thefts. She was charged with stealing jewellery and money totaling £57 11s 2d from the' dwelling of Margaret McKay on October 11th. and stealing jewellery valued at £8 16s. tho property of Mrs McLaren on October 14th. Accused, who reserved Her defence, pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial. Bail was allowed. DUNEDIN, October 26. At tho Anglican Synod a motion was passed, ‘‘That the Synod assist in measures recently initiated with a view to the erection of a suitable memorial to the Rev Samuel Marsdon, who first introduced Christianity into New Zealand." Notice of motion has been given in connection with tho uo-licenso question. At the Police Court, in the case of James Gcddce, charged with having signed his name as a fitness to a claim for enrolment without having seen the claimant’s signature made, it was shown in evidence that before witnessing it the defendant asked claimant if it was her signature, and she replied affirmatively. The case was dismissed, defendant being allowed a guinea professional costs.
