AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

A meeting of the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held at (Mr Speed’s rooms fast evening. Mr J. H, Pollock, vice-pre-sident, presided. The delegatee present were—Messrs W. F. Larkin', E. W. McVilly. E. W. Cordate, H. W. King. W. H. Pollock, R. Everard, J. Davis, J. B. Speed, and H. Etching, bon sec. : Correspondence from the New Zealand Council was read intimating that arrangements had been made for a 20 per cent, redaction in tho fares of the New Zealand team selected as representatives at the Australasian championship meeting, and that the team would have to leave Wellington on Saturday, November 4th. The council would hand the inanager of the team (Mr P. Ross) the sura of £l6 to defray tho team’s hotel expenses at Sydney, but the passage money of each representative would have to bo provided by the respective centres. Tho centre resolved to arrange a passage for Mr F. Ross, the walking representative. Similar arrangements would have been -made for sending Mr T. Craig, the, New Zealand champion hurdler, but for a. telegram arriving stating that Mr Craig had strained himself seriously, and would be unable to make the trip. The secretary of the Council of the N.Z.A.A.A. reported that the Wellington Centre’s share of the profits of the Shrubb-Duffey tour amounted to £4 19s. Some comment was made on the fact that although Wellington and Auckland meetings showed handsonic. profits the New Zealand championship and Shrubb-Duffey combined meeting, managed by the New Zealand Council of tho Amateur Athletic Association, came out with such a loss as to absorb the bulk of; the profits made by the North Island ‘Centres. The. programme of the Wellington A.A.C. spxdng meeting was approved, and application for the use of toe centre’s gear for the meeting on November 4th was granted. The secretary was instructed to collect the registration ■ fees no.v due by active members of the W.A.A.C. and to issue a warning that disqualification will result in cases where unregistered ■ members competed. Mr .1. B. Speed was appointed to issue certificates of registration. The team chosen at Christchurch to represent this colony at the Australasian championship meeting consists of five members, as follows: F. Ross (Wellington), one and ' three-mile . walking events; T. Craig (Wanganui), 120yds and quarter-mile hurdles. and long jump; 11. S. Williams (Christchurch), 100yds and 220yds flat: F. E. Drake (Ashburton). 220yds and quarter-mile flat; 11. G. Burk (Dunedin), half-mile, one mile, and three miles running. The championship gathering takes place in Sydney, commencing on 'Saturday, 11th November. Tho New Zealand team leaves Wellington on Saturday, the 4th November, by the Wimmera, after taking part, in the amateur sports on the Basin Reserve on that day. Craig being unable to go, another selection may be made.
