THE BASIN RESERVE.

(To the Editor “ N.Z. Times,") Sir,—-Spring's de-lights have returned, but it is not delightful at the outset to have a damper thrown upon cricket in tho Basin, by having “too many cooks," or committees, in the management and preparation of the ground, -hampered as they are by ill-appointed delegates. Why not leave it entirely in the hands of the old. well-seasoned, and omnipotent Ground Committee ? Plans have been prepared at some considerable cost for the levelling of the ground, but without avail, for in steps a General Committee of incompetents to stultify the good actions of the matured committee. It has ever been so in Wellington since its foundation. Too many frothy meddlers and divisional interests, to allow wisdom and long experience to have full scop© and free sway. It is satisfactory to learn that Mr*Holdship will once again be in our midst, to give us the benefit of bis Warnerian experience, and combined with the Ground Committee's sound advice, everything will go with a swing, and as ftaily as a marriage peal of bells, especially if the rotten pavilion be set in order.—l am, etc., TRIPLE - 808 - MAJOR. August axth.
