During tho recent visit to Christchurch of the Homeward-bound New Zealand football team the (Juntei bury Rugby Union incurred certain expense© in ihe wa.v of rofritihmenl, cub lines, luggage freight, etc. Accounts were toiwa.d.d in the usual course to the New Zealand Rugby Union at Wellington, but llio head body disallowed JM 6© of “sundries,’' ‘and deducted that amount from the Canterbury Union s ©hare of tiic maich proceeds. The matter came before the committee of the Uanlerbiiry Union 10-nighl, when some very uncomplimentary iemarks weie made about tlie New Zealand Union. The chairman said tho team was in Christchurch lour days, and no arrangement was made by tho New Zealand Union as to the amount to be expended on their entertainment. Members of the team were allowed to wander around Christchurch with nothing lo do. Some of tho local executive took the matter in hand, and tried to make the time pass pleasantly for the footballers. The whole cost of that hospitality was only =£l 6s. Several members who had incurred expenditure in entertaining tho team volunteered to pay the amounts themselves, rather than allow the Canterbury Union to be hold responsible. A i motion was carried unanimously objecting to the refusal of the New Zealand Union to pav the disputed amount, a-nd affirming that if the refusal was adhered ■to the committee would decline in future ito entertain any team visiting Christchurch under the auspices of the New Zealand Union.
