HOCKEY.
Our Mastcrton correspondent writes: — Tho following/ team has been selected to represent Wairarapa against Manawatu at Palmerston on Saturday. August U)th: —Goal, J. Fisher (Carterton A); fullbacks, Parton and Toy (Reremai); halves, Ashton (Carterton B). Donald (Reremai), and Boyle (Carterton B); forwards. G. Seilar (Keremai), Rue (Kia Kaija), Jones (ivia Jiaiia), \V. Fisher (Carterton A), imnny (Carterton A). The team is a very weak one. Certainly some of, the best players will not be able to represent the Wairarapa. through not being able to got away, but apart from this, the team has been very ill chosen. Players have been picked who arc practically strangers to their positions, though good iineu are available who have played m their positions ail the season. For instance, J. Fisher is one of the best lull-backs iu the Wairarapa, yet he is selected as goal-keeper in preference to Cook, who is the best goal-keeper in the Wairarapa. By playing Fisher in goal, he is practically wasted. The forwards are a fairly good lot. Considerable improvement wiii have to be made in the team it any sort of show is to be made in the match against Wellington.
