FRENCH FLEET IN ENGLAND.
ENTERTAINMENTS FOB OFFICERS AND MEN.
LONDON,
August 10.
One hundred French officers were entertained at a luncheon at Guildhall Six hundred other guests were present. The entire route was lined with flags, and great enthusiasm was. manifested, the streets being crowded. Tho Mayor of Portsmouth' entertained three thousand French sailors.
LUNCHEON AT THE GUILDHALL.
THE CHANNEL A BOND OF UNION. (Received August 11, 11.55 p.m.) LONDON, August 11. At tho luncheon at the Guildhall Admiral Caillard assured the Lord Mayor that France warmly appreciated the magnificent welcome which. Britain had extended to the French soldiers. His hope was that the" friendship of tho two nations would be drawn still closer, and that tho Channel would become r bond of union.
