LIFE SENTENCE.
MESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, May 27. A sensation was caused in the Supreme Court to-day by life sentence being imposed by Mr Justice Edwards on Victor Henry -Sfmroonds, a sailor, twenty yeans of age, who pleaded guilty to two charges of unnatural offence on hoye. His Honour, addressing the prisoner, said:—This is one of the most awfnl offences that has ever come nnder my notice. You are absolutely unfit to be at large or to live. A very short time ago you would have been stamped out o£ existence. So far as I am concerned you shall never again have the chance of being the destroyed of young innocents. The sentence is hard labour for the term of your natural life. The prisoner was heard to remark to Dectivo McMahon, “Tour light will ho put out before long.’’ No official notice was taken of the threat.
