HISLOP’S Committee will be held in the Aro street Mission Hall on MONDAY, the 10th inst., at 8 p.m. 726 TO THE MUNICIPAL ELECTORS OP THE CITY OF WELLINGTON. AND GENTLEMEN,I havo the honour to inform you that 1 propose to seek re-election to a scat in the Wellington City Council, and respectfully solicit the favour of your votes and interest. Owing to the somewhat malicious and quite unwarranted ' reports that were widely circulated previous to and during the last Council Elections, viz., that 1 was seeking election with the sole view of raising factious opposition, and' of ventilating a personal grievance I was j credited with having, or (according to the "Post") ought to have had, my freedom of speech and action was greatly curtailed, yet I venture to hope that in spite of this my general knowledge of city matters, due to my long connection with the Corporation, enabled me to be of service both ,to the citizens and the Council. Although not so much in evidence in the j columns of the press as some Councillors, I may remark, for the benefit of those who do not attend Council meetings, that the most reported is not of necessity the most useful member, or tbe one who does the most real work, : and that reference to the Miinuto Books of the Council will show that I have devoted as much time as any member to the business of the Council, and that my vote has been consistently given in favour of all measures which I considered were in the true interests of the citizens generally, and against the expenditure of moneys which, whilst benefiting a few, were more urgently required for works of greater general ntilivy. During my term of office, I have endeavoured .to study the interests of all rants of the employees in every department, and to afford a just support to the respective heads of these in carrying out their onerous duties. In conclusion, 1 may venture to promise that should you again honour me by electing me to a seat in the Council, no effort will be wanting on my part to justify your confidence. Yours faithfully, 655 GEO. WILTSHIRE. TO THE CITIZENS OF WELLINGTON. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,—In response to the repeated requests of a number of Electors, I have decided to ofler my sendees to the City as Councillor. As a resident of over twenty-five years, I claim to know a little of its requirements, and as a master builder for tuat time, I think my experience may bo of service in the Council’s deliberations on the various works projected. As a large ratepayer I should endeavour to conserve the best interests of the City. Economy with efficiency will be my policy. I have no axe to grind, and am totally opposed to touting for votes. I offer my services to the city and leave myself in your hands. Should you honour mo with a seat in the Council room I shall use my best endeavours to merit your confidence. ,f Respectfully yours, 745 JAMES TREVOR. TO THE BURGESSES OF THE CITY OF WELLINGTON. LADIES and GENTLEMEN. I respectfully announce that in response to the request of a large number of Burgesses I have decided to seek re-election as a Councillor at the forthcoming election, ,■ I am, yours faithfully, 416 M. MURDOCH. KARORI MAYORALTY. TO THE BURGESSES OF THE BOROUGH OF KARORI. I BEG to inform you that I shall be a candidate for the position of Mayor at the ensuing election. 747 . J. P. CAMPBELL.
