PORT NICHOLSON YACHT CLUB. The final race of the Port Nicholson Yacht Club’s first-class handicap was sailed on Saturday between Mr A. H. Turnbull's torangi (scr) and Messrs Gcorgceon and McLean’s W.iitangi (30 secohds) in a fresh north-westerly wind. Both yachts got away sharp to time, Mr Turnbull’s yacht, nuclei- double-reefed mainsail and jib, and the Waitangi under single-reefed mainsal, jib, and stay-sail. On the reach to Point Halswell the lorangi gained it minutes, but did not gain anything much on the run down the entrance to tho Pinnacles buoy. On the beat up to Kora Koro a high sea was encountered, the Waitangi holding her own and gening up under the lee of the land, got away and rounded the Koro Kero buoy livo minutes to the good. ‘On the run homo the lorangi picked up 1 j minutes on her opponent, the result of the race being— Waitangi, Hirs 51min 30sec (witli 7 points), and lorangi, 4brs -Vanin (with 5 points). This entitles tho owners of the waitangi to Commodore E. C. Mills’ trophy. Tho Waitangi was sailed by Mr McLean, and lorangi by Mr A. H. Turnbull. Mr E. Bucholz’s Muritai wins ViceCommodore J. D. M. Georgeson’s trophy for second-class yachts. Rear-Commodore 14. C. Renner’s trophy for third-class yachts goes to Mr R. Brewer’s Taipari. Messrs R. C. Renner and W. B. Missen carried out the duties of starter, timekeeper, and judge. The above race was the final one before tne annual regatta, to be held on January 23rd next. NAVALS’ CUTTER RACE. The annual cutter race (sailing) between tlio Wellington and Potpne Navals for the Zealandia Cup was sailed on Saturday afternoon in a stiff north-westerly breeze. Four boats entered—two from each corps. T he course was from Queen’s Wharf to the buoy otf Point Jernirigham, thence across by homes Island to a buoy off Petone, and from there back to Queen’s Wharf. The Petone Navals won the race, their two cutters being the only boats to compleJtp the course. P.O, Hickson was coxswain of the winning boat, and P.O. Edmonds pi the one finishing second. The Wellington Navals had all the worst of the race in regard to luck. Their two cutters were leading when the one coxswained by P.O. Skelton was disabled through the gaff carrying away. A temporary spar was mado by bending two oars together, and the cutter, close - reefed, returned home. P.O. Griffiths had charge of the Navals second cutter, and was still leading the Petone boats when his gear also broke down, and he was obliged to run into Mahanga Bay with the jigger sail, and was subsequently towed to Wellington by a ferry steamer.
