OFFICIAL AND UNOFFICIAL ESTIMATES. LOSSES AGGREGATE NEARLY FIFTY THOUSAND. (Received September 4, 9.18 a.m'.) LONDON, September 3. Unofficial estimates state that the Russians have fifteen divisions of fifteen thousand each—a total of 235,000 men —at Liaoyang and in the vicinity. The casualties of the Russians since the battle began on August 23rd aro estimated at thirty thousand, while the Japanese are said to have lost from fifteen thousand to twenty thousand men.

General Kouropatkin admits that his losses during two days were five thousand. He also states that his right wing has fallen back, and that General Kuroki has crossed the Taitso river, and is advancing westward. It is official reported at Tokio that the Japanese losses since August 29th are below ten thousand.
