It is said that tho aged Father Key. head of the Carthusian Monastery where Chartreuse was made, is the only living person who knows the secret of how to make the world-famous liqueur. Into his ear—so the story goes—was whispered the secret of the formula by the dying Father Gamier. By the decision of tho French courts he was commanded to give the formula to the Freuch Government. “The secret shall die with me!" exclaimed Father Key when tho purport of the Court's decree was told him. f T pledged mv oath to the dying father that to none other than one of our holy Brothers should this:secret be revealed.
