OLD WORLD COLORINGS.

PUCE AGAIN FASHIONABLE’ IN PARIS.

CBy a Paris Fashion Correspondent.) If the bolero-pelerine costume is to I) llio great rage of tins season in more 01 loss dressy styles, for morning wear and simple “about going,” the Louis XVI. modes hold full sway over our charming Parisiennes for day gowns el a more sumptuous kind. And not only are the Louis XYX fashions almost identically copied, but silk manufacturers are reproducing once more tlio delicate, thin silks of those days, and the “taffetas chaugoants” which were formerly the delight cl Mario Antoinette. An essential part of the Louis Seize costume is

the "ombrelle,” or sunshade of tho period, ivliich is made in keeping with the colour of the costume. For v -h all these old-world modes, the exact old-world colouring is also reviving. Puce-colour, which was such a favourite of Marie Antoinette, is now restored to public favour, as well as the peculiar greens and blues of those days shot with some contrasting shades. A replica of a gown which might have been worn by the beautiful queen herself, has just been made by one of our leading couturiers in very supple “taffetas ebangeant”—pnoe-colour shot with pale blue. A full skirt has, of course, ; lablier, upon which dowers are fashioned in strange meltings formed of the same taffetas as the gown. Around the lower hem of the skirt, and outlining the “tablier,” are also narrow pinked ruches of the same. The sleeves roach only to the elbow, and have a deep flounce of Alencon. Another similar flounce forms a rovers turned upwards upon the sleeve, and this is separated from the lower flounce by a narrow pinked ruche of taffetas. A large sunshade goes with this gown, which is formed with tightlygauged “mousseline de soi,” to match the blue shade of the shot silk. It is bordered all round with three flounces of cream Alencon, which adds a certain lightness to the costume.
