PREMIER'S BIRTHDAY.
GATHERING AT ROTORUA. Special to the “ Times." ROTORUA, Juno 23. Last evening a social gathering was held in tho Alexander Hall. Rotorua, under the auspices of tho local branca of the Liberal and Labour League in honour of tho Premier’s fifty-nintu birthday. The hall was adorned with large photographs of the Premier, the old homo of his birth and his family, together with an artistic motto inscribed “Long livo our beloved Premier, the Right Hon R. J. Seddon. God bless him.” Mr D. Griffiths occupied the chair. Toasts honouring the King and Queen and tho Royal family, and the now Governor, Lord Plunket, were drunk. The references to tho Premier and the beneficent legislation passed during bis term of office were tho signal for hearty and prolonged cheering. Tho Arawa tribe was represented by Chief To AVharepurangi, who also made a speech in praise of tho Premier.
