A conference was held to-day between the Masterton Borough and County Councils with a view to arriving at somo arrangement in connection with the adjustment of tho finances made necessary by severance of a portion of the outer ward of tho borough now included in the county. It was decided to recommend that the matter of adjustment .be settled by the AuclitorGeneral. Mr iv. heist has been nominated by the Masterton School Committee as a candidate for Wellington education Hoard. DUNLDIN, June 23. The City Council is making application for . a water race eight miles in length from Deep stream to Lee stream, to sup* xdement the poiver from Lee steram, for generating electricity for tramways and other purposes. The race is estimated ot give ten heads of water and to cost JJ6030. At the Police Court to-day, a charge of. having printed a paper, relating to fire insurance without the name of the printer, was dismissed on tho ground, that tho proper person hud not been charged. 1c was stated that it had been believed hitherto that circulars did not require an imprint, but the Act was so comprehensive that this view was plainly wrong. The Harbour Board, after again discussing tho matter of receiving and delivering cargo, decided to accept none of the tenders sent in under tho conditions framed, but resolved to call for tenders for receiving and delivering, at per ton, tho contractor to bo’ responsible fbr all claims from the time goods leavo the ship's slings, until delivered to the consignee the Board to retain tho collection of all dues and all charges for storage.
