Councillor Essex will move at the Borough Council meeting next Tuesday night that tho mayor call a special meeting of tne Cauncii at an early date to deal with the sewage question only, and that the borough engineer be asked to supply the Council with all possible information—(l) As to the advisability of having the levels taken by local surveyors; the cost and probable accuracy of same. (2) The probable cost of preparing plans of proposed sewers locally. The chances (if any) of their being more efficiently and economically carried out from tho local knowledge possessed by local men. (3) The probable cost of obtaining working plans and specifications of septic tanks from cities in the Australasian colonics whore such septic tanks are now in operation. Captain Pringle, of the Manawatu Mounted Rifles, has been offered the post of adjutant to the No. 3 Mounted Rifle Battalion, whoso head-quarters are at Palmerston North. Messrs Russell and Buick, late residents of this town, are each to receive an illuminated address at the Borough Council's office to-morrow night. The former gentleman Is also to receive a purse of sovereigns.
