MOTOR RACING.
THE GORDON BENNETT RACE. COALMENCEMENT OF THE CONTENT. LONDON, July 2. For the Gordon ‘Bennett motor-car raco twelve competitors started. The weather was glorious. Crowds ol sightseers camped, all night along the lino of route, paying huge prices for tents. Edge, on a Napier machine, led for the first two rounds. The speed was terrific. A later report shows that a German competitor is leading, with' a Frenchman next, accidents having stopped the Englishman who first led. [The course for this race, which resembles the figure 8, is in Queen’s County and Carlow, Ireland, commencing some thirty-five miles from Dublin, and traversing Kiloullen, Castle Dermott. Carlow, Athy, the Qurragh, Maryborough . and Ballylinan. The smaller of the loops is to bo covered twice, while the larger must be traversed four times. The total length of the" course is about 360 miles.]
