AN ELECTION PETITION.
PRESS ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN, May 29. Mr Carew, S.M.. gave his decision today on the petition to unseat one of the Councillors for South Dunedin. The ground of objection was that one of those who signed the nomination paper was not qualified to do so. The person in question wag on the roll on a residential qualification and voted on that qualification without question. The Magistrate, in concluding his decision, said:—“lt seems to me that if the qualification of being on the roll is sufficient for the purpose of signing a petition in the case of a disputed election, it is also sufficient for the purpose of signing the nomination of a candidate. Th e petition is dismissed.”
