THE LATE MR TRAVERS.

The body of tho late Sir W. T. L. Travers was buried in the Bolton street cemetery yesterday morning. Tho Rev T. H. Sprott, vicar of St. Rani’s, assisted" by the’ Rev Joshua Jones, of St. James’s Church, Lower Hutt, conducted the funeral ceremony. The interment was practically a privtite cue. Amongst those in attendance wire members of deceased’s family, Major Alexander (representing Lord' Ranfurly), Mr H. D. 801 l (representing the Now Zealand Law Society) and Mr C. P. Skerrett (president of too Wellington Law Society) and tho Hon Mr Butler. At a pnhlio meeting held at ihe Lower Hutt on Monday evening, Mr Orton Stevens, tho Mayor, proposed that a motion of sympathy be passed with Mrs Travers in her bereavement. The resolution was carried. At the Magistrate’s Court at No’; on yesterday, Mr Robinson, S.M., and Messrs Pitt and Fell, solicitors, referred to the great loss the bar had sustained in tho death of Mr Travers, who was the first District Court J udge in. Nelson. At last night’s meeting of the Ratepayers’ Association, Mr A. A. Bamett asked that the business of the meeting should be suspended while he proposed that a mhmte be recorded expressing the association’s great regret at the untimely death of the late Mr W. T. L. Travers, and sympathy with his widow and the members of his family. Ho stated that deceased had been for many years connected with the Corporation of Wellington, and always did his best for the advancement of the city. The motion was carried, tho members standing. Mr Wilson (the president) also referred to the interest taken by Mr Travers in city affairs, particularly in the matter of water, supply.
