DEATHS BY DROWNING.

PRESS ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN, January 22. Mrs Annio W rig ley Coultor, fore-cabin stewardess of the Victoria, on returning to tho boat at 11 o’clock last night, after visiting some friends, fell over the wharf and was drowned. Mrs Coulter was a widow of between ‘ls and 50, and belonged to Melbourne. As far as can bo ascertained she had no family.. She wag formerly stewardess on board the Westralia, and had been in the employ of the Huddart-Parkcr Company about three years. At tho inquest a verdict was returned of accidental death by drowning, no blamo being attachable to anyone. The jury added a rider calling the nttou- , tion of the authorities to the necessity for tho wharves being better lighted, and for chains or copes to bo provided for the prevention of such accidents. Deceased was employed at the “ Herald ” office as aihebinist, and was much respected. His mother resides in Otago. An inquest will be held to-morrow.
