Mr Patrick Butler, an old resident of Sebastopol, Victoria, died on Wednesday, January 7th, at tho ago of seventy years. Tito deceased’s mother died a few months ago, at the ago of ono hundred. On tho day above referred to died also Mr J. 11. Dardoll, an old resident of tho Geelong district, aged ninety-one. Tho deceased gentleman was a pioneer vigneron of Geelong.

Sergoant-Mn.jor Keen, late musketry instructor at tho School of Instruction, was a passenger for London by the Papanui on Wednesday. On severing bis connection with tho volunteer forces of Now Zealand, lie was presented with a case of pipes, and a letter signed by all tho non-commissioned officers who attended his lectures in Wellington, expressive of gratitude for tho benefit they had derived from Ida instruction. • Tho wedding took placo yesterday at. Rosswood, near Mastcrton, tho residence of tho bride’s father, of Mr J. G. Smith, son of tho lato Mr James Smith,, of Wellington, and _ Misa S. Chamberlain. Smith and W. E. Chamberlain tho groomsmen. Tim death occurred at Sanson last Tuesday of Mr George Crichton, a gentleman well known in Wellington, where ho was for soino years in business as a draper. Mr Crichton camo to Wellington in 1879 from England, and from that dato until 1883 ho remained in tins city, after which ho went into business at Feilding, and subsequently at Aslilmrst. In 1889 ho retired from business, and thenceforward lived in retirement at Sanson. Mr Crichton, during his residence in Wellington, was a deacon of tho Baptist Church. Ho died of an internal complaint, which caused a long and painful illness. Ho leaves a widow and nine children, two of whom are well known in this city. One is Mr William Crichton, architect, and tho other is Mr Gcnrgo Crichton, of tho Government Life Insurance Department, now in charge of tho AA cst Coast offices of the department. The deceased was in his eightieth year.
