Tlnn after run was added, and tin* bowling changed and rcchangcd. but without result.' Both batsmen played brilliant cricket, though Dowson gave no loss than six chances. As fhowing how the bowling was mastered, it may he mentioned that Dowson bit thirteen off three consecutive balls. Special (co tile “Tijies.” GREYTOWN, January 21. Dowson’s score of 218 not cut was the feature of the match, hut his display vas marred by six chances. On the first day ho was at tho wickets for eighty minutes for 52, and to-day ho added 16G in 110 minutes. When ho had reached his first century, his comrades timed him for tho next hundred, and ho made tho paco a cracker. In fours, fives and sixes, tho score mounted with a rapidity that made even tho recorders’ hands trouble, and tho Cambridge skipper polished off tho second century in forty minutes. Ho was going stronger than over when, at tho luncheon adjournment, Warner declared tho innings closed with seven wickets down for -105. Altogether, Dowsou was 190 minutes at tho wickets. On reaching tho pavilion, his admiring comrades photographed him.

Fano gave a stylish display for 27 not out.

It 'was arranged tliat stumps should bo drawn at 5 o’clock, to enable the Englishmen to got away to Wellington by tho lato train, and great hopes were entertained by uairarapa supporters that their men would play out time. Both Hargrcavo and Thompson bowled very deadly, however, and they were well backed up by their comrades, with tho exception, however, of Warner, who dropped threo easy catches. There was a mournful procession of incoming and outgoing batsmen up to tho advent of Nicholls, who, with H. Hawke (12) and Perry (14) vainly essayed to stop the rot. Nicholls added 34, which included four 4’s. Keys followed with a modest 14. Tho whole innings only lasted 150 minutes, and closed for 119. The first ton wickets fell 1 in one hour for 29 runs. Two of tho catches dropped by Warner wero off Thompson’s bowling. For bis negligence tho English skipper lias to pay ss, a half-crown fine being tho penalty exacted by tho professionals if any of their catches are missed. Tho takings at the gates for both days total approximately between £GO and £7O. AUCKLAND r. TARANAKI. PKESS ASSOCIATION. HAWERA, January 21. The cricket match Auckland v. THE J UNIOR REPRESENTATIVES. Tho selection of the junior team to play against tho Wednesday representatives to-day (Thursday) has given general satisfaction, and the team is a, very strong one. Appended is a criticism of tho team, forwarded to ns by “Been There” :—■ ’ CTombio has always done well in junior ranks, and is a good, free bat, scoring chiefly by driving and on play. A good JioJd. Johnson (Wellington) is another forcing batsman. Ho cuts well, aud makes good u.so of an “on” stroke, which is half a puli and half a drive. An indifferent hold. Lnckio is an excellent slow left-hand bowler, who has done much good work lately. Ho bats Joft-liandod, and makes runs at times. O’Sullivan is one of tho best batsmen of tho Wellington team, though rather out of form at present. Is a safe field. Pery as a batsman has a stylo which is ail las own. Ho is not a pretty bat, but cap got runs. Bonds fairly fast log-breaks. At times gets in a ball which would bowl any senior., An excellent field. Hawthorne has done excellent service for Newtown with both bat and ball. Has seine tolling off strokes. A good field. Miller is tho team’s fast bowler, and is always likely to get wickets if ho keeps his length. Pair field, but an indifferent bat.

Wcybourne, on present form, is tho best batsman in tho team, and must havo a hatting average well over 80, having already scored two centuries (158 and 135.) Safo field and a fair change bowler.

Hutchings is a solid batsman, and when "sot” scores well all round tho wicket. Has not fulfilled expectations in junior crickot this season. A good wicket-keeper. Jacobs lias rather lost confidence in himsolf, owing to want of practice. When “sot” is a good hat, though depending chiefly on forward play for his runs. Au uncertain field, hut a useful wickot-keepor. Topp is about the best all-round man the Gas Company’s team has—for, besides, being a good bat, he is an excellent medium-paco bowler and a safo Hold.

Tho following players have boon selected to represent the Wednesday Cricket Association in tho match against tho ahovo on Anniversary Day:—A. Pringle, D. Niven, C. AVhelan, W. Thawley, J. P. Shand, J. MoGurk, 0. Cook, A. B. Trusoott, J. Soott, C. Wyatt, H. Dixon; emergencies, A. Wallace and Davis. Tho following team of Old Boys will play Vivians on tho College Ground at 10.30 a.m. to-day:—Boll, Darrock, Jameson, Ingles, Male, Meek, Moss, Pye-Smith, Salmon &), Willis.
