OPERA HOUSE. Tho second performance of the exciting drama, “A Life’s Revenge ” was given last night. Tho audionco was most sympathetic in its appreciation of the incidents of tho story. The company's season closes tonight. THEATRE ROYAL. The performance at tho Theatre Royal was given to tho accompaniment of genuine laughter throughout last night. -Messrs Yorko and Kearns were in groat demand, and tho songs of Air Frank Graham wore fully appreciated. Miss Emmie Smith again captivated the audionco, and was enthusiastically recalled. Miss Ida Roslyn, Little Vera Kearns, Miss Beryl Oilman, Mr Chas. Howard

and Mr Will Stafford gavo very acceptable contributions. Aroua and Boyd, and Alberto gave some smart exhibitions of wizardry, and were successful in amusing and mystifying the nudi. once.

“ SHERLOCK HOLMES.” After a brilliant season of nine nights at ■Christchurch, Mr J. C. Williamson’s Dramatic Coinpa.uy will arrive here tomorrow morning, and will open a twelvenights’ season at tho Opera House tomorrow evening, when ono of the most successful plays of modern days will ba presented, viz.. William Gillette’s “ Sherlock Holmes.” Tho company selected to support Mr Cuyler Hastings includes several artists who have visited Wellington previously, but the majority aro newcomers. Of the Miss May Chevalier, tho leading was brought out from England by Mr Williamson for tho production of “ Ben; Hur ”in Sydney. Sho has a reputation: for great versatility, and has appeared with leading London companies. Otter members of tho company who have’ achieved distinction in the Old World aro Miss Mabel Lane, Miss Minnie Terry and Miss Nina Herbert, Messtd H. * Hamilton Stewart (from the Haymarket Theatre, London!, Mr Lumsdon Haro. Mr -Edmund Gwenn and MW Frank Hollins. The scenery and all accessories are identical with those, of the Australian production. _ To-day being a holiday, tho box plan will bo on yiow at tho Empire Hotel vestibule from-lfl till G o’clock.

Thcro was a largo attendance laatr night at the Choral Hall. The Dean. Vaudeville Company’s programme seem*, very popular, and tho waxworks are ona of the features of tho entertainment.

To-night an. exhibition of boxing "»■ to bo given in the Exchange Hall. Be- • sides contests between several local amateurs, there will bo an eight-round match between “ Snowy ” Sturgeon, champion wolter-'weight of Australia, and “Dummy” Mace, an exponent of - tho art of some note. ■
