Tho “ Daily JCxprcss ” states that the object of the Panther’s endeavour to enter Lake Maracaibo was to capture tho Venezuelan gunboat Miranda, which was concealed there. • During an hour’s conflict a hundred and twenty shots';wore exchanged between the fortress and tho Panther. Tho fortress was little damaged, but the warship considerably. NEW YORK, January 20. Opinion in America is strongly condemnatory of the arrogance of the German commander on tho eve of arbitration.
