The Chicago beef-packing "combine” has collapsed. The first wool sales of the season were held yesterday in Welljfgton. It is said that Mr Kruger is appealing for permission to return to South Africa A company is being formed in London to develop part of the Gulf of Carpentaria littoral. Meetings of the Wellington Harbour Board, Land Board and Education Board were held yesterday. Emperor William delivered .a remarkable address at Essen to the directors and workmen of tho Kmpp foundries. The question of affording relief to suf. ferers by tho drought is still engaging the attention of the New South Wales Parliament. Tho case of Raid v. tho Bank of NewSouth Wales and others was again before the Supreme Court in Wellington yesterday.
