SPORTING.

WELLINGTON SPRING MEETING. SECOND DAY. Tlio spring meeting of tlm Wellington Racing Club was brought- to a conclusion on Saturday afternoon. The weather was favourable, and there was a fair attendance. The sport provided was more interesting than on the first clay. Mr Chadwick managed to conceal the winners, and in only two events did tlio first favourite get home. Exmoor was responsible for the pace in tlio Pearce Handicap for about seven furlongs. The light-weighted General Symons then came on and won by a clear length. The sou of Perkin Warbeck 11., owned by Mr Frledlandcr, of Ashburton, paid the best dividend of the meeting. Twelve started for the Ruahino Hack Handicap, in which the investments amounted to £llß9, over more than was put through on the big race of tho day. The favourite, Romany Lass, owned by Air IT. Frledlandcr, a brother to the owner of General Symons, was ridden with better judgment than on tlio first clay, and won with something to spare from Heritas, who improved on somo of his recent showings. Tho starting of Air H. Piper was first-class tlmoughout the meeting. With the exception of the second and third horse in the Pearce Handicap, Air Hartgiills task in placing tho horses was not difficult. Tho sum of £6256 was passed through the totalisator during the afternoon, making a total of £13,413 for the mooting. This amount shows a deficiency of £7905 compared with the mooting last spring:— !
