ENTERTAINMENTS.

THEATRE ROYAL. Bi.vs Gaiety Company submitted an entiro . change of programme at the Theatre Royal on Saturday night. The entertainment now provided at this place of amusement fully maintains Us character for merit and variety, and the public shows its appreciation thereof by attending in goodly numbers. One outstanding item of the new programme is a descriptive song by Frank Clark entitled “Faces wo miss from the Stage.” Then there is tho 1 uglily successful Irish sketch by Callahan and .Mach, entitled “Tho Old Neighbourhood.” This idyllic item Is ns enjoyable now as it was at tho time cf its first production, and the mingled humour and pathos that marks it wrought the feelings cf the audience on Saturday night up to enthusiasm. Tho artificial darkles, Sam Itowicy and Joo Cowan, provided the quips and cranks by custom provided for such parts, while those with a devotion to tho science of muscular dexterity wove amply catered for by Brown Parker, who scientifically “knocked seven bells” out of a swinging ball. Tho Misses Lewis and Lcntou gave acceptable song and dance numbers during the cvcniug, and vocal contributions by Miss Johnston and Ernest Fitts -were encored in each instance, •The programme will be repeated tb-uight. “THE WRONG MR WRIGHT.” A season of hearty laughter will start at tho Opera House on Wednesday ©veiling,. when Mr George Willoughby and his talented London Comedy Ocmpany appear in “Tho Wrong Mr Wright. ’ Tills is a new play-by tho author of “What Happened to Jones,” and is said to bo infinitely better and funnier. "When produced at tho Bijou Theatre, Melbourne, it attracted over 100,000 people, and lias just finished one of the most successful seasons on record at Christchurch. Wo all know ‘What Happened to Jones,” and how it caught the popular fancy, and if all the critics are correct in placing “Tho W roug Mr Wright” so far in advance of Jones, their a &Voat treat is m store for playgoers on ’Wednesday evening. The inn is •wholesome, the dialogue genuinely witty and smart, and the performance goes throughout with a briskness and vim that keep tho interest of the onlookers at high tension from beginning to end.” The box plan is rapidly filling at Holliday’s, where would do well to secure their scats. His Excellency tho Acting-Governor. Lady Stout and party havo announced their intention of witnessing the performance on Wednesday night. Mr Williamson’s Musical Oomcdy Company brought its Wellington season to a close on Saturday night with a performance of “San Toy,” given before a crowded audience.
