Kensington £1 Is, small amounts 19s—.£3 Is. _ Total amount collected in Wellington, £1493 12s 4d. PRESS ASSOCIATION, AVESTPORT. August 14. The stun of M 0 has so far been sub. scribed in Westport towards the Veterans’ Home Fund. Special to the “Times.” NAPIER, August 14. Among the Hawke’s Bay subscription* to the fund for the Veterans Home art —Mr Sydney Johnston .£SO. Mr J. H. Cole, man £2O. Mr F. AV. AVvlliams £lO 10s. Mr M Chambers £lO, Messrs St. Hill Bros. £lO. The total to date is .£172. but thin docs not include large subsenptions yet to come in from the country. PALMERSTON. August 14. This evening a public meeting was held in connection with the establishment of a A'eterans’ Home. It was attended principally by veterans, and only three Borough Councillors were present. The Mayor (Mr AV. T. AVood) presided, and appealed for support on behalf of the project. Captain Preece stated that there were thirty-one veterans in the Manawatu district that be knew of. A motion was carrier! that those present be added to the Council as a committee to canvass for subscriptions. Captain Hewitt exores sc-d the hope that those canvass:ng would keep the idea pi eminently before the people that the home was a memorial to thcfse who had fallen in South Africa. It was decided to send subscriptions lists to prominent settlers in outlying district}.
