In the case against A. F. Miller, tho defence was that two two-pound loaves joined together were over 41h, but when pulled apart one was giver and the other under two pounds. A fine of 40s and costs was imposed. W. K. Latham was fined 20s and costs for not having a loaf legibly stamped, and James Anderson was fined a similar amount for haying Roman numerals instead of Arabic figures on tho loaf. Tho bread in each of these cases was full weight. William Wright, Daniel Georgeson and James Samuel were each fined 20s and costa for not having proper weights and measures in their carts. Tho Baptist Union of New Zealand is taking steps to perpetuate the memory of tho lato Rev Harold Peters, late pastor of tho Wanganui Baptist Ohurch. The Rev Dean Grogan, of St. Patrick’s, Napier, writing from Philadelphia, in the course of a private letter, gives it as his opinion that life in the United States is carried on at such high jirossure that it deprives whole masses of tho people of all pleasures. Dean Grogan finds no new developments in regard to tho relationship between capital and labour in the United States, but says that journalistic authorities anticipate something of tho kind shortly, and base their conclusions upon the unrest shown by the people.
