WELLINGTON REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION.

There was an attendance of fifteen referees at last night’s meeting of the Wellington Referees' Association. Mr A. C. Norris presided.

It was decided that a communication bo forwarded to the Wellington Rugby Union drawing that body’s attention to the hooting and jeering of referees that takes place at matches on the Athletic Park. The Management Committee of the union is to be asked to keep a jookout for offenders, with a view to making an example of them. The members of the association not acting in matenes intend to be on the alert and will report the festive barrackers to the Management, Committee.

It was reported that the Appeal Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union has decided that in the event 01 a kickoff not reaching the ton-yard limit, cr the twenty-nve-yard line at kick-out, iho non-kicking side can play the ball; but if the side that kicks off plays it then the whistle shall be blown and the ball brought back ’to be again kicked off. The following fixtures have been made for next Saturday’s matches:,-Senior-Old Boys v. Athletic, Mr G. Katle/ns; Wellington v. Oriental, Mr J. Laughton , Melrose v. Poneke, Mr A. J. Nonis. Junior—Athletic v. Wellington College, Mr W. Beck; Petone v. Southern, Mr A. U'Conuell; Old Boys v. Kia Ora, Mr i. Berntsou; Melrose v. Oriental, Mr J. Murray. Third-class—Kaiwair.i v. Old ’Boys, Mr C. Campbell; St. James’s v. Petone, Mr H. Lark; Southern v. Poneke, Mr G. Howe; Kia Ora v. Wellington, Mr W. Shilling. Fourth-class—Sr. James’s v. Southern, Mr J. brown; Wellington v. Poneke, Mr B. tlausen.

The work of the selectors of the junior representative team is likely to be more than usually difficult this season. The practice is for each club to send in the names of those junior players cousNiivad to be lit to play in representative games, and from tho names sent in the selectors pick the team. Usually Tne average names from each club total half a dozen or so, and as a consequence the selectors have not had a very hard task. This year, however, one club is going to nominate tho whole of its. second fifteen, a second will nominate eleven men, and it is likely that other clubs’ nominations will be but little less numerous. (From Our Carterton Correspondent.) At a meeting of the Management Committee of the Walrarapa Hugby Union it was . decided that the ■ Wellington v. Walrarapa representative match should be played at Carterton on the 19th July, and to suggest the 23rd August as the date on which tho return match should be played at Wellington. - With reference to the New Zealand Rugby Union’s suggestion asking for Unanimity respecting the re-introductioh of the penalty for “foot-lifting” before the' ball is placed within the scrum, it was pointed out that the English Union had specified the-alteration, for international matches only; therefore it would bo farcical, for any New Zealand union to adopt n’motion favouring the proposal. It was further decided’ that the New Zealand Rugby Union be asked to interrogate the’ English governing’ body as to the reason why the penalty should 1 not apply to all matches. The Walrarapa Union has suggested to the Bush and Manawatu Unions the 10th and l2th July respectively, as the dates on which the Valley representatives are prepared to visit the northern districts.
