Tho Customs returns for yesterday amounted to £905 10s 2d.

Tho Department of Agriculture has received tho following cable from the Agent-General, dated Loudon 21st instant; —The mutton market is depressed. The average price to-day for Canterbury mutton is 3£d; Dunedin, Southland and VV.M.K. Co mutton, 3i}d; other North Island mutton, 3jd; River Plate mutton, 3'd. The Jamb market is weak. Stocks of lamb on hand arc heavy, and arc widely distributed amongst agents, who are pushing sales. The average price to-day for Now Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, is from -lid to 4Jd. River Plato lamb. 4Jd. The beef market is dull. New Zealand hinds, 4id ; fores, 3! t d. Tho hemp market is dull and speculative. New Zealand hemp, “good fair Wellington” grade on spot to-day, is £3O nominal. July-Soptombcr shipments, £27 10s. There has been no alteration in the cocksfoot seed market since last week.
