MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
MONDAY, APRIL 11. (Before Mr W. R. Hasoldcn, S.M.) Ono first offending <lrunkard was convicted. Rebecca McLaughlin was fined 10s, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. A young woman named Martha Halliburton admitted having used obscene language in Taranaki street on Saturday night, and was fined £3, in default throe wceks J imprisonment. A ’bus-driver named Thomas Long was charged with drunkenness, and also with having boon found by night without lawful excuse on the premises of Edwin Arnold. Tho defendant admitted having boon drunk, but was not aware of having boon on tho complainant’s premises. Mr Arnold stated that about 10.30 on Saturday night a man endeavoured to enter his house by tho front door, and thon by tho window. Witness proceeded to the doorway and found tho defendant in a state of drunkenness. His Worship imposed a fine of 40s, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment with hard labour, on tho second olfonco, and convicted and discharged tho defendant on the first charge. Goorgo, Joseph, Alfred and Frederick Mundlo wore ordered to contribute 2s Gd per week each towards tho support of their mother, for whom Mr Wilford appeared; tho payments to commence on tho 21st of April. Goorgo and Alfred appeared in Court, and consented to tho order. Edward O’Connor was ordered to pay 10s per week for tho support of his wife, and 2s 6d for each of his two children. Tho first payment is to bo made on tho 21st inst. Thomas Tierney, charged with being a rogue and a vagabond, was remanded until April 181 h. For disobeying an order of the Court to pay 7s per week towards tho support of his child, William Lowe was sentenced to ono month’s imprisonment with hard labour. At tho Mount Cook Police Station, before Mr W. Salisbury, J.P., four first offending drunkards were convicted. Lizzie Griggs was fined £3, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment for drunkness.
