SERIOUS RAILWAY MISHAP. THIRTEEN KILLED—THIRTEEN WOUNDED. The Acting-Premier received the following cable early this morning from South Africa, through- his Excellency the Governor; — Following killed in railway accident at Mochavie on 12th inst.: — Private J. Harris, Athol, Southland. Private F. L. D. Lowe, Styx, Canterbury. Private A. H. McDonald, Oamaru. Private Y. H. Brown, Sheffield, Canterbury. Private P. Rogers, Woodhaugh, Dunedin. Private M. Cauty, Longbush, Southland. Private A. P. Leers (otherwise W. Foss), Waihi, Auckland. Private R. Osborne, Middlemarch, Otago. Private J. Bruce, Oamaru. Private J. Maloney, Little River, Canterbury. Private C. Bourne, Christchurch. Private J. C. Simpson (relatives unknown). Private J. H. Jones, Southland. The following were dangerously injured :—• Private H. Brown, Denniston, Westport. METHUEN’S DEFEAT AT TWEEBOSCH. LONDON, April 13. Lord Methuen, in his report on the reverse at Tweebosoh on March 7th, states that on the day prior to the engagement, during sniping, the 86th Company of Imperial Yeomanry, which was in the rear, got out of hand. The company was without lire discipline, and its officers and non-commissioned officers were uninstructed and inexperienced. Thereupon he placed the Yeomanry in the van on' the 7th. The rout began among the Afrikander levies, who formed the rear screen of the convoy. - MISCELLANEOUS. LONDON, April 13. Beasley lias received advice from the Premier that liis son, who was last week reported dangerously ill of enteric fever at Heilbrou, had slightly improved, though his condition was still serious. DUNEDIN. April 14. A private cable has been received, intimating the deatli in the Transvaal from enteric of Capt. Geo. R. Tubman, well known in scholastic circles here. Deceased was on the staff of the George street School before ho enlisted in the Fourth Regiment, in which he received a lieutenant’s commission. He left the Fourth with the rank of captain, and accepted a civil appointment in the Transvaal. The following message, dated April 9th, has been received by the Premier from Major Pilcher:— The following sailed by the Columbia Surgeon-captains -Fenwick (Dunedin) and Gabites (Timaru), Nursing Sisters Littlecott and Eagle; 36-18 Corporal E. Masson (Paparoa, Auckland), 4567 E, M. Qnelch (Dunedin); also 38 men who were left helling by the Cornwall. In reply to a query by the Premier Major Pilcher has informed him that 3376 Private W. F. Horing (Wellington) and 4380 Private Wm. Andrews (Timaru) are both convalescent: and 3810 Howard is progressing favourably.
