The Customs returns for yesterday amounted to £11)37 9s lOd. The following cablegram, has been received from the Agent-General, dated Loudon, Bih instant:—“The mutton market is firm. There has been a better tone iu the mutton market this week. Very few prime carcases of mutton have been marketed lately. The average price to-day for Canterbury mutton is Is 3Jd; Dunedin, Southland and W.AI.K. Co. mutton, 3id; other North Island mutton, 34d. There is a better demand for Jamb. Shipments of River Plato lamb are increasing. The average price to-day for New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, is old; lamb other than Canterbury, sjd. The beef market is quiet; Now Zealand hinds, 4'id; fores, 3|d. The butter market is dull, at 110 s. ■ Tho cheese market is very firm at 51s. Tho hemp market is dull at £3B. Reports from Alanila indicate heavy shipments of hemp are expected. There is a disposition to sell distant hemp. April-Juue shipments, £35. A few inquiries are being made by speculative buyers for cocksfoot seed. Quotations nominal. New Zealand, 171 b standard, 42s to 455.” WELLINGTON PRODUCE MARKET. Lacry and Co., Ltd., report the following wholesale selling prices on the Wellington produce market: —Potatoes, 60s to 70s; wheat, 3s 8d to 3s 9d per bushel; feed oats, 2s 9d, 2s lOd; seed oats, 2s lOd, 3s per bushel; barley, 2s 9d per bushel; maize, 3s to 3s Id per bushel; flour, £9 per ton; pollard, 110 s per ton; bran, 100 s per ton; oatmeal, £l4 10s per ton; chaff, £3 15s per ton; Canterbury hay, £A 10s per ton; field peas, 4s 3d; horso beans, 3s 6d per bushel; ryegrass seed, 3s 9d to 5s per bushel; cocksfoot seed, dressed 4d to 41 d, farmers’ parcels 3d to 3Jd per lb; onions, Canterbury £6, local £5 per ton; dairy butter, prime, 8d to Bid per lb; cheese, sd; bacon, Cjd, best factory; hams, 7|d; rolls, 7d to 7jd; fowls. 2s 9d to 3s per pair; roosters, 3s 6d per pair; ducks, 3s to 4s per pair; turkeys, hens 8s per pair, gobblers 9s to 13s per pair; geese, 5s per pair; fresh eggs, Is 2d per dozen; cabbages, 2s 6d to 4s; cooking apples, 2s to 4s; dessert apples, 3s to 9s. COMMERCIAL CABLES. PEESS ASSOCIATION. LONDON, March 9. Copper on tho spot and at three months’, £54 15s per ton. Silver is quoted at 2s Id per oz — a fall of id. Frozen Meat.—Canterbury and Dunedin mutton has advanced I-16d per lb. New Zealand beef—Fair average quality' ox fores have advanced id; ox hinds have declined id. The rest are unchanged. [These prices are official quotations furnished by tho Frozen Aleat Trade Association. The basis of quotations is -sales of lines of not less than 100 carcases mutton or lamb, or twenty-five quarters beef. All quotations for mutton, are for fair average quality.] WESTPORT, March 10.
Tho coal output last week was 8597 tons Scwt, all from tho Westport Coal Company’s mines.
